IL-14: Foster Statement on SCHIP Veto by Bush.
"The President did the wrong thing today by vetoing health care insurance for children and it was wrong for former Speaker Hastert to vote against it."
Businessman, Scientist and Democratic candidate for Congress Bill Foster released the following statement concerning President Bush's veto of the expansion of SCHIP:
"After years of neglect and runaway spending, President Bush may have found his veto pen, but he seriously misused it this morning. The President did the wrong thing today by vetoing health care insurance for children and it was wrong for former Speaker Hastert to vote against it.
"This is why we need to change Washington. We have a President who has spent billions in pork barrel spending, bridges to nowhere, and teapot museums, but now refuses to expand health insurance for needy children . This was a bill supported by Republicans and Democrats alike, yet President Bush was deaf to Congress and to millions of families who cannot afford to have their children covered by health insurance.
"Any candidate for Congress who believes we must continue down the path set by the President is out of touch with the priorities of voters in the 14th District," Foster concluded.
According to the Chicago Tribune, 170,000 children and 130,000 adult residents in Illinois currently get health insurance through SCHIP.
