IL-14: Foster Releases 3rd Quarter FEC Estimate

$209,000 raised from 680 contributors. 85% new donors, 71% scientists.

Geneva, IL – Today the Bill Foster for Congress campaign released preliminary estimates as of midnight on October 2nd, 2007 of the report they will be filing with the Federal Election Commission on October 15th.

"The unprecedented outpouring of support Bill has received from the scientific community and from first time contributors is testament to the campaign of change he is running," said Foster manager Thomas C. Bowen.

"Voters are tired of the same old politicians making the same old promises that fall flat. Bill Foster's career as a businessman and scientist is exactly the kind of new approach that is exciting donors across the district and across the country," he concluded.

Foster also ensured that his campaign will be a leading challenger race as he matched the pledges of contributors this quarter with a contribution from his personal funds of $200,000. This quarter's $409,000 figure is a record for Democrats in the 14th District.

The following are preliminary estimates compiled by the Foster campaign:

Raised from individuals: AT LEAST $209K
Contributors: AT LEAST 680
Average contribution: SLIGHTLY MORE THAN 300 dollars.
Contributors with no giving history according to the FEC: AT LEAST 570 – 85%
Contributors who are scientists and engineers*: AT LEAST 480 – 71%
Candidate matching contribution: $200K
Cash on hand at end of 3rd quarter: APPROXIMATELY $400K

*Scientists and engineers are defined as listed occupation being either scientist, physicist, engineer or professor of physics.

Bill Foster of Geneva, Illinois is a successful businessman and scientist running for Congress to change course in Iraq and here at home. At 19, he and his brother Fred started Electronic Theatre Controls from scratch – today a world-wide leader in the theatre lighting industry. A Harvard trained PhD in Physics; he lived for 22 years in the Fox Valley while working on science's most difficult problems at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory where he was involved in the discovery of the top quark and the construction and operation of major experiments and accelerators. Bill's experience of economic success, scientific accomplishment, and problem solving is needed in a Congress bogged down in partisan fighting, scandal and runaway spending.
